Design Review & Codal Compliances

Design Review
– Check the design for suitability of the end use
– Design review by project director who is in-charge of the project
– Design review by the internal team capable of identifying the errors in design and provide solution for such designs
– Design review by any other external agency or individual expert in design reviews such IIT’s. Engineering colleges other autonomous institute or even other organisation having capability of reviewing an existing design. It can also be a team of people as per requirement of design
– This process will save time, energy and reworking at organisational level before delivering it for execution
– The suggestions provided by the reviewer can help the project in terms of quality of work, effectiveness, value engineering, reduction is cost, optimisation of resources and suitability of design
Codal Compliances
The main purpose of design code is to provide minimum requirement for safety of resources which will ensure the execution of the work as per compliance. Any code for engineering design specifies minimum standards required for execution of the work as per codes applicable to that design. In general following codes are followed
Architectural designs – National building codes (NBC)
Steel Building – IS standards or MBMA code
RCC buildings – IS Standards
Earthquake – As per IS code of Seismic zones
Fire – NFPA codes
Piping – ASME
Electrical – IEEE, NEC, NESC or NFPA
HVAC-ASHRAE, ISHRAE, NBC, ECBC ETC.,
PLUMBING- IPA, IPC, CIBSE,ASPE ETC.,
AND OTHER BIS, BS , INTERNATIONAL BUIDLING CODES, MOEF, HIGH RISE COMMITTEE (HRC) ETC., AS REQUIRED.
GREEN BUILDING CODES-IGBC, GRIHA ETC.,
